Three Lynn high school choral students were selected to perform in the Northeast Massachusetts Senior District Music Festival that was held at Lowell High School on January 5th. These students also earned an audition to compete for a chair in the All State Chorus, which will perform in a concert at Boston’s Symphony Hall in March.
The students awarded this honor are, Deborah Pierre and Dimitrios Pelekoudas from Classical and Jason Diamond from English.

Breed students who were selected for the Northeast Massachusetts Junior District Music Festival Chorus include
Pierrelene Louis, Melissa DeLeo, and Kristina Musto.
Patricia Langenberg, a student at English, was selected for the Northeast Massachusetts Junior District Music Festival Band. These students will perform in a concert to be held at Lowell High School on Saturday, March 15, 2008.

The Lynn Public Schools Jazz Band performed at Mayor Clancy’s Inauguration on January 7, 2008. The high school saxophone quartet played The Star Spangled Banner to open the ceremony.

The English High School Gospel Choir, under the direction of music teacher Lianne Goodwin, performed at the city’s annual Martin Luther King breakfast on Monday, January 21st.
These students also sang for the Mayor’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Party.

Choral students from Classical and English, along with the Brockton High School Choir, will be performing Mozart’s Mass in C at Brockton High School on Thursday, February 14th. They will be performing with the prestigious Handel and Haydn Society Chorus, accompanied by the Handel and Haydn Period Orchestra, and conducted by Handel & Haydn’s John Finney.

A Middle School and High School Instrumental Concert will be held on Wednesday February 13th, featuring both middle and high school concert bands, jazz bands, string ensembles, and orchestras.
This concert marks the debut of the Lynn Public Schools Middle School Orchestra.

Through educational partnerships acquired by the Fine Arts Department, Lynn students and teachers will be attending and/or participating in the following activities: Boston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerts, Peabody Essex Museum Multi-visit Program, Handel & Haydn School Visits, Music at Eden’s Edge Artist-in-Residency Programs, Days in the Arts at Tanglewood, Addison Gallery Workshops.

Plans are underway for the Annual All City Art Exhibit that will open at LynnArts, 35 Exchange Street, Wednesday, May 7th and will continue throughout the month. Governor Deval Patrick has been invited to attend the opening ceremony.

The High School Jazz Octet has been invited to the International Association of Jazz Educators’ competition to ne held in March. This is one of the fiercest competitions in the Northeast.
These students rehearse every Monday evening at English High School.

Two former Lynn Public School Jazz Band members have started the city’s first “Alumni Jazz Band” which rehearses on the first Thursday of each month. They plan to raise scholarship money to be given to a graduating senior band member.
